But I realized that I probably need to elaborate a bit more on WHY I'm working on this project.
Do you see that little badge to the right? The one with the mice from the movie Cinderella that says "Disboutiquers Big Give Group"? Well that is a fabulous group of super talented people who donate their time and talents to sewing for families taking Make a Wish trips to the Orlando area.
I met the Disboutiquers on disboards.com when I was researching for our Disney trip. The clothing they sew is just amazing. Many of them sell their items on etsy or ebay. They are all so creative and come up with the cutest ideas for Disney inspired outfits. Once I saw some of the things they were making, I knew I wanted to make clothing like those for my kids to wear on our trip. Everyone was so helpful in answering my beginner seamstress questions. I knew that when I got back from our trip, I wanted to join in the fun of sewing for Make a Wish families.
The current family I am sewing for is a family of six. There's mom, dad, two brothers, an older sister and then the Make a Wish child. Their story is both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. This family (like so many other make a wish families) has been through so much and yet they continue to carry on and remain positive. The little girl who is the recipient of the trip is 9, just one year older than Adrianne. They are also a homeschooling family. They live in North Carolina and have a miracle doggie of their own. There are so many similarities between our families that I knew I just HAD to sew for them.
One of the things they will be doing on their upcoming trip is going to Sea World Orlando for a day. This is the day I picked to sew for.
So far I only have the parents' shirts completed. I think they came out pretty well, even if they are simply designed. They have some flaws to be sure, but hopefully the family will enjoy wearing them.
First up is Mom's shirt.

And now Dad's.

I had fun with his using the ric-rac to mimic waves and make it look like he has a little whale diving down into his front pocket.
I can't wait to get started on the kids' stuff!
