Sewing for Disney: Hollywood Studios

As I already mentioned, I was inspired by the Disboutiquers to sew special outfits for the kids to wear on our trip. I know doing this was for sure over the top, but I had fun creating the outfits and I think that the kids all felt special wearing them there.  I will try to post what I made after I post about that park day.

Since the most popular ride at Hollywood Studios is Toy Story Mania, and also because my kiddos LOVE the movies, I decided to do a Toy Story themed day.

Max was easy. Max was going to be Woody the Cowboy.

Although I will say that after I made his outfit I thought I should have made him Buzz Lightyear instead. He LOVES Buzz. Anyway, on to the details in his outfit!

I sewed his shorts using chambray fabric to give the look of denim without the added heat. Since we were going in August I wanted to make sure that he was cool enough.

Back:

I repurposed an adults sized yellow tee shirt and traced a shirt that fit him to make a pattern for his shirt. Then I added the cow print vest.  His set was finished off with a bandana that I made using my serger.

Adrianne wanted to be Jessie.

I repurposed a pair of jeans that had holes in the knees and added on the three ruffles to make her skirt.

Then I used a pattern to make the top. I made it out of eyelet and added red ric-rac trim to the yoke to mimic Jessie's top.

Riley wanted to be Barbie from Toy Story 3:

Her outfit was a bit of a challenge. I knew I couldn't use the spandex type workout fabric because that would be too hot. I also knew it needed to be shorts instead of full leggings and we were going to have to ditch the leg warmers. I looked and looked for the right shade of teal, but could never really find anything I really liked.

Finally I settled on using a tank top she already had and stole her sister's knit shorts that were the same shade as the top.   I had to take the shorts in a LOT as well as make them more fitted. Then I also had to make a design to go over some print on the shorts. I came up with a star and embroidered on it to make it look like Barbie had been doodling (although I wish I had used a darker color thread!):

Then I made a simple pink belt. But Riley worried that people still might not know who she was so we decided to add the Barbie silhouette  to the top.

Completed look:

Emmaline wanted to be Bullseye the Horse.

Of course I couldn't actually MAKE her look like Bullseye, so I made a Bullseye themed dress.

Her dress is also made mainly out of the chambray fabric, and I also used the same fabrics for her ruffles as I did on Adrianne's Jessie skirt.

Finally i added a nice, big applique of Bullseye to the front panel of the skirt.

Emmaline LOVES this dress, and I must admit, I do too!
