My New Plastic Card In My Wallet

Today I FINALLY made the trip down to the library to get my library card.

I know, I know. I've been here ALL summer long and I'm JUST now doing this. But today I decided that I really needed to get to the library and get a card because I need to start reserving some books that I need for homeschooling lessons. So I took advantage of the fact that Matt could watch the girls while I sneaked off to the library BY MYSELF.

And OH I felt like I had died and gone to heaven!

Let me say that the library where I used to live was TINY. There weren't very many books, and they often didn't get many new things in. The children's section was pretty good, though, so the majority of my checkouts there were children's stories for the girls.

But since I'm now a big city girl again, I can now visit a library where there are SO many books. And not only that, but there are at least ten library branches in the city, of which I can reserve materials from any one of them. I literally have vasts amounts of reading material readily available at my whim and fancy.

I LOVE to read, so when I stepped through those doors, I was immediately greeted by the familiar scent of old books. It's such a lovely scent, and it always brings fond memories of the stories I've enjoyed throughout my life.

After getting my card, I decided to roam around the place and acquaint myself with the layout of the building. After wondering through the reference, adult fiction and non-fiction sections, I made my way towards the back of the building where the children's books are kept. As I was perusing through the various children's stories, I couldn't help but become nostalgic over every beloved title that I stumbled upon.

There are SO many books I can't WAIT to share with my girls. I know how much I enjoyed them when I was a young girl, and I am confident that they will enjoy them just as much as I did, if not more. I have already begun reading them the "Little House" series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I know it's a little advanced for their age, but I couldn't resist exposing them to such a great story. When we read those books, it's a special time we share, where we all snuggle up in my bed and read together.

So today, as I walked through the bookshelves overflowing with books, I had to resist the urge to pick up one of my favorite stories, Pippi Longstocking. (okay, I KNOW that's supposed to be underlined NOT italicized, but there's not an underline button!) I even had it in my hand, when I decided to put it back because right now we're in the middle of another book! I came across title after title that I wanted to bring home and share with the girls.

But the beauty of the library? I can come back and get them later. They will always be available to check out at some point, and the girls and I will never want for a good read!
