On Friday morning we ran out of milk. Since I didn't really need anything else from the grocery store for dinner that night, I thought I would put it off and just pick some up sometime on Saturday.
However, Saturday turned out to be a very dreary day as it rained absolutely all day long. Steady, hard rain too and it was also kind of cold. Needless to say I didn't want to go out. But I knew that the girls would be wanting milk for breakfast.
What to do?
I always keep some dry milk on hand in the pantry as I've found it comes in handy. Every now and then I will find a recipe that calls for it or, sometimes, I like to add some in when I'm making milkshakes. I had a whole box that I had bought to make some hot chocolate mix, so I thought to myself, "Why not?".
I mixed up 2quarts and put it in the refrigerator to chill over night. I was thinking that would be plenty to buy me enough time until I feel like going to the grocery store.
Today, as I started our Sunday morning ritual of getting the girls up and fed breakfast so that we could all start getting ready for church, I made the girls chocolate milk and served it to them. They started eating. I was kind of thirsty so I decided to make myself a glass of chocolate milk as well.
It was disgusting.
I was really surprised that the girls didn't complain about it. Although I did notice that Adrianne had finished her breakfast and was just kind of sitting there staring at her cup. I had to finally ask her if there was something wrong before she admitted that the milk tasted funny. I laughed and told her I thought so too and she didn't have to drink it. Riley was also relieved that she wasn't expected to finish her milk.
I will DEFINITELY be heading out to the grocery store sometime today.
