Introducing CHARLIE!!!!

Today was a big day at our house. Not only was today Matt and my 8th anniversary (seriously, where does the time go?) but we also got to go pick up my birthday present.

This year, I thought I was going to use all my birthday money to buy a steam mop. In fact, I had been planning on getting one with my birthday money ever since Christmas. But after doing some research on steam mops, I discovered that I couldn't use one on the vinyl floor tiles that make up the bulk of the hard floors in our rental house. So I decided I'd have to wait and get a steam mop when I actually had floors I could use it on.

But what to get?

Well, about a month before my birthday I had found out that we were going to have another kiddo, so, being the planner I am, I had already begun to formulate some post-baby plans. Since this baby will be born in October, and Matt is a teacher who won't be able to take off a lot of time from work, I knew that things could get tricky. This was all magnified by the fact that we no longer live close to any family who I could easily call and ask for help if I felt like I needed it. And generally speaking, the only time that I ever really felt like I needed extra help was at the dinner-time rush hour (you know, when you are desperately trying to get food on the table because everyone is hungry and the new baby decides that it's the perfect time for a complete and total meltdown, even though they had previously been a perfect angel all day long?). I knew that if any of our family was able to come for a visit and help out, it would be that many more people who needed dinner to eat.

Enter Charlie.

I am SO excited about having Charlie around. I had thought once or twice before "man we could really use a chest freezer" when I would be trying to cram all the frozen foods into our refrigerator's freezer after a grocery trip, but the thought never really stuck with me for long. But suddenly it made so much sense to go and get a chest freezer so I can have plenty of pre-prepared meals I can shove in the oven at moments notice to feed my family once this new little guy gets here. And we're going to be a family of 6 so I'm sure that the freezer will get PLENTY of use over the years.

So yes, I got a chest freezer for my birthday! (I know I pick out strange presents sometimes!) And even though my birthday is in April I waited this long to get it because I kept waiting for a really good sale (which never really happened, although we did get like $50 off, so that's something). I finally got sick of waiting, plus I wanted to start cooking things to put inside of Charlie for after Little Brother arrives, so after we returned from our trip I ordered the freezer and Matt got the email today saying it was ready to be picked up at the store.

Since it was our anniversary today, we went out to dinner with the girls. After dinner we went to go pick up the freezer. When Matt and the store guy finished loading up the freezer into the car, Adrianne asked, "What's the freezer's name?" I, of course, told her that was a strange question because freezers don't have names but Matt answered, "Charlie-the-chest-freezer." So Charlie it is.

After bringing Charlie home and getting him out of the box I gave him a good wipe down and he is currently airing out because he has a funny "I've been sitting in a warehouse too long" kind of smell. I can't wait to start filling him up with lots of good things to eat!
