One month down, eleven more to go.

Things have been so busy around here lately that I feel like the month of January has just whirled by.

Much of January has been spent swiping runny noses and covering up coughs. All three of the girls came down with some sort of cold. Riley never got quite as bad as the other two, and only suffered for a few days, however Adrianne and Emmaline were much more miserable. For about two days, Adrianne ran a fever and Emmaline's nose was like a faucet. She even had to stay out of the nursery at church for TWO weeks in a row because her nose would just not quit running. Finally though, everyone is all better.

I've been keeping busy with watching after the girls and continuing school with them. I've been on a math kick lately so in addition to the reading program that Adrianne does everyday, we've been tackling adding numbers one through twenty. I'm really proud of the progress Adrianne is making. She can usually come up with sums for numbers between 1 and 10 without having to count objects or use her fingers. I'm trying to get her to memorize more and more so that she will be able to do the larger sums as well. Soon we'll start tackling subtraction!

Riley continues to be my little stinker. Everyday she does school right along side Adrianne, only I've been mostly working with her on recognizing, counting, and writing the numbers 1-20. She's totally got the recognizing and counting part down, but writing them still gives her a little trouble. I think she's still refining her fine motor skills that are really necessary to make writing easy. I remember Adrianne had the same trouble and then one day writing just clicked for her as well.

Emmaline is continuing to perfect her walking skills. She now walks around quite a bit, however she still knows that she is much faster at crawling, and will default to that whenever she needs to get somewhere in a hurry.

Matt has been substituting off and on. The days that he has been unable to find a school to substitute at he's been working on teaching himself more graphic design skills to help build up a portfolio to show to potential web design clients and (possibly) employers.

So that's a brief summary of what we've been doing this past month. All I can say is that I sure hope that February doesn't fly by as quickly as this last month has, although I have a sneaking suspicion that it will regardless of my wishes.
