One of my goals for the year was to learn garment construction and begin making simple outfits for my children to wear. I have been working on my goal and decided that I wanted to try making the children's Easter outfits myself.
I made Emmaline's dress first. It is a simple peasant dress but I thought she looked just adorable in it.

Riley's dress was rather simple as well. Her dress has shirring in the back as well as a button hole that the straps pass through. I made my very first button hole for this project!

(Apparently I don't have any good pictures of Riley in this dress yet!)
Adrianne requested a skirt instead of a dress. I bought the shirt and then embellished it.

And for Max, well, I must confessed I cheated and bought his outfit! But I had the best intentions of making him one.
I originally planned for him to wear these shorts I made

however the sizing was off on the pattern and they were much to large on him (long, not wide). I suspect they will fit quite nicely next year when he is a little taller, so I plan on saving them.
So after that, I planned on sewing up another pair. I even modified the pattern to be shorter so I would get the fit I desired, and went so far as to cut out the fabric!
However, I knew that I didn't want to attempt making his shirt. I am just not that confident in my sewing skills yet. I knew I wanted either a lavender or purple shirt (preferably polo shirt) so he would coordinate with the girls. But it is rather difficult to find either of those colors. After going to four different stores, I had only seen one top that would work, and it was $10.80. Now I know that's not an unreasonable amount to spend, but I still had one more store to visit.
At the last store, I ran across the set Max ended up wearing. It had both the polo shirt AND the plaid shorts for three dollars LESS than the shirt at the other store. So it seemed like a no brainer to just buy the set and let him wear it.
(Please ignore the broom...it's REALLY hard to get a good picture of a 17 month old!)
So there you have it, my children's Easter attire!
