Today I converted the crib into a daybed.
I can't believe it.
I'm fairly certain I am in a state of shock.
It's so hard for me to really grasp that our crib days are over.
But they are.
For a long while, Maxton has been climbing out of our pack n' plays. But he had been fine in his crib. That all changed last week when our family was visiting. Amidst the chaos of all the kiddos sharing a room, he figured out how to climb up and out. I was sort of hoping that once everything went back to normal he would give it up, but no. He had MASTERED getting out and was so stealthy about it that I wouldn't even hear him doing it.
Yesterday when he was finished with his nap he just came strolling back out into the living room. At bedtime, I had to go stick him back in bed THREE TIMES. Twice he had climbed in bed with Emmaline and then once he decided to go into the bathroom and get himself a drink!
After the bathroom drink incident, I knew I was going to have to convert the bed over. I know taking down the crib rail won't keep him in bed, but at least I know he'll be safer than climbing over the side and dropping down.
So today I mourn the loss of yet another part of my last child's babyhood.
