On Monday, the Austin Area Homeschoolers (AAH for short) had their annual (NOT) Back to School Party and we joined in on the fun.
The (NOT) Back to School Party is traditionally held on whatever date the Austin area public schools begin. It's kind of a fun way to celebrate the freedom and flexibility that homeschooling offers. It takes place at a municipal pool and homeschooling families pack a picnic lunch and enjoy playing games and swimming together to kick of the new year.
The girls really enjoyed getting to swim and meet up with other children who also homeschool. It was amazing to see just how many families were represented there, and I know that the numbers I saw reflected just a portion of how many families actually homeschool in Austin.
So even if we didn't crack open a single text book on the first day, I can officially say, "School is now in session!"
