There are times when my children do things that makes me wonder if they really are MY kids. I mean, if I didn't remember carrying them around for all those months and taking care of them since the day they were born, I would seriously wonder if they were some other persons kids. I'm amazed at how different their preferences can be from my own.
For example, Riley doesn't like peanut butter. Flat out refuses to eat it. I know! What kid doesn't like peanut butter? Everyone in the family LOVES peanut butter except for Riley. For her, eating a peanut butter sandwich is like torture for both her and me (her because she doesn't want to eat it, and me because I have to enforce her consumption of it). Honestly, most of the time I've given up on even giving her peanut butter to begin with. It's just not worth the fight and time spent trying to convince her she needs to eat it. But every now and then, the convenience of taking a peanut butter sandwich along wins me over, and I always end up regretting my decision later. You see, Riley can also be rather stubborn (in that sense she IS my child!) so she doesn't give in easily.
Both Adrianne and Riley are OBSESSED with all things the color pink. When I was younger I HATED the color pink. In fact, it wasn't until I actually had Adrianne that I even tolerated the color pink at all. Even though I still am not a huge fan of the color pink, somehow it suits my girls.
The latest thing that has me wondering if my kids are in fact my own is Emmaline's eating habits. She is such an odd bird at times, especially with eating. I'm starting to get a little concerned that she might turn out to be my picky eater since we've already had such trouble getting her to eat anything other than milk. Don't get me wrong, she will eat, but it's taken a lot of work to get her used to it. And she does prefer to feed herself, as opposed to me using a spoon or fork. In fact, she doesn't like any utensils at all. She'd much rather eat something from my finger than a spoon.
And Emmaline seems to be sensitive to the textures of food. For example, a couple weeks ago, I gave her some chunks of baked potato to eat. She ate that just fine. However, when we tried to give her mashed potatoes, she simply wouldn't eat them and spit them out as soon as it hit her tongue. Another food she doesn't like to eat is avocado. I can't figure out how on earth I managed to have a baby who doesn't like to eat avocado, especially when I eat them myself all the time, but somehow she doesn't care for them. I've tried giving them to her repeatedly and every time the reaction is the same: a "yuck" face and` then spitting it out. Here's a cute video (a little long) of her eating avocado and some cheerios. Oh and it has Adrianne in the background entertaining Emmaline. EVERY meal around my house is a dinner theater!
