Riding Lessons

Ever since my wonderful father-in-law Trevor taught Adrianne to ride a bike in three days, I have made it my goal to get Riley riding before the start of the summer. I figure that should be plenty of time to get her comfortable enough so she can ride on her own.

At least once a week (if not more), I am trying to get the kids out on a long walk to the playground as an excuse to give Riley some extra practice riding her bike. Since Adrianne did so well once we removed the pedals from the bike and used it as a balance bike, I decided to do the same thing for Riley.

However, Riley is being a reluctant learner and turning out to be an even bigger wienie than Adrianne was at her age. Even though it is nearly impossible for her to fall off the bike (both feet easily touch the ground!), she is overly cautious and sometimes goes at a snail's pace, especially when starting out. Generally she warms up after a while and musters up the courage to coast faster.

Still, I suppose any advancement is progress. So we ride on.
