It's Potty Time......Maybe

Some kids are just plain harder to potty train than others.

With Adrianne, there was a lot of stop and go involved in the process. She'd be interested in trying out the potty but usually after several days of really trying without much success, we'd both need a break so we'd stop and then try again a few weeks later. She was well over two before it really clicked, and until it did there was a lot of extra laundry involved in the process.

So far, Riley was my easiest. That kid practically trained herself and it was never a fight to get her to sit on the potty at all and she had very few accidents. She was trained completely by 18 months.

And now Emmaline. I've read a lot of places that kids who are cloth diapered are supposed to be easier to potty train and often train earlier than their disposable diapered peers. I'm not sure how much I believe this though as Emmaline is already 20 months and so far hasn't shown much interest in potty training.

I have to admit, I haven't really pushed the issue with Emmaline, mostly because I still have traumatic memories of trying to potty train Adrianne when she wasn't ready yet, but also because I knew that Max would be arriving soon and didn't want Emmaline to have too many big changes and adjustments going on at the same time.

But for whatever reason out of the blue Emmaline actually ASKED to sit on the potty today. So we did. And she went! I was so proud and made sure to make a big deal out of it, telling her what a big girl she is and whatnot.

Since going that time, she has asked to sit on the potty a bunch more times but so far has yet to reproduce similar results. Sometimes she asks to sit on the potty after the fact (as in her diaper is already wet) or after sitting on it for a few minutes she'll decide she is "all done" only to end up with a wet diaper later on. I know that she's got to figure out how this all works on her own, so as long as she keeps asking to sit on the potty, I'll keep taking her and I guess I will just have to wait around and see if we actually get anywhere at this time.
